Most people think that the music industry is only made up of
artistes, producers, and record labels. But recently it has shown that an
artistes has some persons or group of
non musician around him/her that will help him/her. And this other people are
Publicists: One of the conspicuous job right now is the job
of the publicists, what the publicists does is generate and manage publicity for
the artiste,This career route is not entirely new but we have seen it boom over
the past decade.A music publicists main function is to ensure that the overall
image that the client wishes to project is maintained at all times .Another function is that the
publicists always arrange and supervise the artistes interviews, releasing
statements to the media,and overseeing
the the marketing and communications
material that’s disseminating to the public on the client’s behalf
Stylists: An artiste
can not be scruffy.we have seen some try and give it up.Being In the face of
the public requires that musicians be well dressed and some times they are too
busy or simply can not do it themselves.thankfully some people are quite
proficient at selecting and matching apparels for themselves and for others .A
stylists is responsible for the look of the artiste,be it at events, music
videos or commercials for prints or electronic media.while sometimes they work
exclusively with one artiste,in most cases a stylists is
one person enterprise
.media houses also hire stylist or retain one on their pay roll to provide the right
looks for editorial shoots and so on.
Video Directors: The act of making video has metamorphose
d from what it use to be to a standard
obtainable world over .time was, when all an artiste needed to make a music
video was a hand held camera and a hotel lobby to record a dance
scene.over the last few years the spread
of international television has shown the spot on Nigeria artiste they by
forcing them to evolve their visual content.and we have not done badly in that
regard, music video directors have upped their game in no small measure.
Beatmakers: Here’s the difference between being a beat maker
and being a producer: A producer is in charge of the whole process of making a
song ,He determines the tone, tune, length and wording of a song.A beat maker
simply has the responsibility of creating the beat that everything else about
the song will be built on.A producer needs to be behind a console in a studio
to get all his work done.A beat maker in unencumbered with all these
structures, with a simple drum machine or a computer with the right software,he
ca lase the beat and forward it to the producer. The great part is,with time and
as he acquires the knowledge and skill and equipment,a beat maker can go on to
become a full fledged producer.
Online Media: The only thing growing faster in Africa is
internet proliferation.Ten years ago, internet connectivity was the exclusive
preserve of the high and mighty.not so anymore, they are currently 40 million in
Nigeria with 60% of those being mobile.the implication of this is that, smart
business men are building platforms to talk about music and other issues. The
number of music blogs and forums are on the increase, seeing serious musicians
distribute their materials on these platforms instead of trusting their
intellectual property to some unlearned distributor in Alaba.Another thing is that it also give them easy access to either check their content online or for others to check it online
